‘happy design’

This is a TED talk by Stefan Sagmeister that is definitely worth a look. I watched it a year or so ago but thought I’d look it up again and decided to post it here.

Please follow this link to visit the Total IT Supplies website as it is currently. The site is not finished as their is still information which needs uploading but the client wished to have an online presence in place for the formation of their business, hence its current existence online.

TITS…

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I am currently working on a project for an IT supplies company called Total IT Supplies… or T.I.T.S. It is to be an all female company hence the name and I was asked to create an identity and website for the company.Below are some of the logo ideas I created whilst developing my ideas and creating a final identity that both I, but more importantly, the client was satisfied with.

Above are the first iterations of the identity I created. The firm was to be unique in its market as it is a female only business and as it had a sense of humour as a result of its name. The concept was to use birds (Tits) to draw attention to the name of the business without making to too crude or obvious. The client wasn’t sure about this identity and felt that it may be too ‘cartoony’ for the brand so I was asked to develop it further.

I kept the logo looking stylised at this point and continued to work with the image of a bird, but in a much crisper and more corporate style. The client decided to reduce the sense of humour they wished the business to have and were still unsure about the incorporation of a bird/Tit and suggested that maybe an image of a generic laptop or PC may suffice.

I came back to the client with these designs and the one below which they chose. I felt that the designs I worked with and the one above which I showed them of a simple monitor lacked so much of the character that the previous designs had that I explained this too them. The monitor which included the computer desktop looked more visually appealing, but was also empty as it bared no direct relation to the company it was referring to and could have been a generic identity.g.jpg

The final design I created (along with several colour variations) was the one above. The client really liked the design, which combined an image of a piece of IT equipment with a bird and was impressed and pleased that I continued to experiment with the image of a bird even after they became wary of the inclusion of it. The client was satisfied with the identity, as am I and the next step was then to work on a website for Total IT Supplies.

New beginnings…

Hi and welcome to my new blog.

The posts below have been imported from my old Blogger account and I will try to post things that I find interesting and creative here on a regular basis as I did whilst at University.

Please feel free to visit my new website and have a look at some of the work I created whilst at University and some of the live projects I have worked on during that time and since.
