Long Copy

These are two examples of effcetive long copy from The National Newspapers of Ireland. They are a nice read and clearly convey the message about the uses of the advertising spaces. The tone of voice is unique for each and appropriate to the advertising space. It reminds me of the work we were aiming for during our typography projects where the aim was to create a tone of voice for our typefaces and makes me wish I had seen these at that time as they would have probably helped me to understand the kind of copy I should be aiming for. These are nice designs and proof that long copy works as long as it is well writen and continuously effective.

Interesting approach to selling advertising space in comparison to the usual ‘Empty Space’ or ‘x number of daily readers/viewers see this space’, creates an eye-catching visual that would be read. Tone of voice is effective and helps to hold your attention; this is a good example of writing well for a specific audience and like you said, creating a character/persona through words alone.

These are really good copy, light hearted and funny it makes you want to read on what there going to say. The tone of voive is appropriate for the use and interesting how well they made it into a charcter, i agree could have been very handy with the type posters. But it is also daring people to just use type to grab peoples attention, and we know that can be done from what is out there, it is whether the company dares to be different.

As Holly said I think they have used a really appropriate tone of voice here. On the note of long copy, it reminds me of an advert I read ages ago, it was basically a really long piece that talked about the power of words and reading, it took up a whole virtually A3 page. Sadly I really can’t remember the words it used but the gist at the end was, if you have read all of the above you may be interested in this (I think it was some kind of intellectual book festival but I really can’t remember) then it said, and if you gave up mid way and skipped to this last sentence, then it probably isn’t.
