Hidden Space

After reading Martin Delin’s post about “A coffee cup miracle!” and dead space (http://martindelin.blogspot.com/2007/07/coffee-cup-miracle.html) I was reminded of this piece of design I had seen a while back…

Unexpecting restaurant/cafe goers would pick up the menu and probably be shocked to see a child within it. I think that this is a good use of ambient media as the medium emphasises the message whilst also being unique and unexpected.

The coffee cups on martins blog are interesting all be it a bit woerd for my liking, but true that there is still alot of dead space that we can use to our benefit. This for me works alot better with the dead space and gets across the point they are saying more effectively. And like you said, seeing a child in the middle of a menu would be an interesting one.

I really like that- it’s interesting and un-expecting. A great use of that space which is usually untouched. I always fiddle with menus and what’s on the table, so it would really grab my attention.

Thats a great use of space and one that only the observant of us would even notice! Its these small touches that catch my attention more than huge signs sometimes!

i like it, a great example of using unusual spaces to grab attention. Things like this always remind me to think outside the box.

Nice one; it’s a simple way of reaching a broad target group and doing so quite effectively!
